Beijing Exhibition Centre ~ registration front entrance and the banner to greet the delegates. Inside, there was a beehive of activity as the work crews set up the exhibits. Tomorrow the Opening Ceremony starts the Congress off with a bang ~ should be a great show!

One of the most interesting tourist sites in Beijing is the Temple of Heaven. The grounds are larger than the area occupied by the Tian'anmen Square and the Forbidden City combined!

The Opening Ceremony included some very exotic entertainment. Here is a glimpse of one of the dance routines.

There were 16 speakers in the Opening Ceremony. Most of the ideas have been shared before but perhaps the clearest statements of objectives and strategies came from the European Commission

(Ms. Zobel), ITS America's Chair (Michael Doyle) and Japan's DG for Manufacturing Industries

(Mr. Shunichi Uchiyame).

ITS Canada's hospitality event included a cocktail reception followed by dinner. Joseph Lam, Chairman of ITS Canada, represented the Society at the event, which was attended by 175 invitees. Guests were welcomed to the event with a reception in the lobby that included a photo opportunity with Chinese in traditional costume. There was entertainment throughout the meal. The actors were brilliant and the arrangement of the raised stage and tables surrounding it gave everyone a good view. Susan Spencer, Transport Canada, and Joseph Lam, Chairman of ITS Canada, welcomed everyone, and invited guests to network. The food was excellent, and compliments afterward poured in from attendees as everyone had an excellent time.

Closing ceremonies ... submitted by William Johnson, TRENDS Consulting, photos by Keith Keene

The Gala Dinner was at the Eco Restaurant on the outskirts of Beijing. In order to get the delegates there in time for dinner through the evening traffic, the organizers arranged with the police to provide an escort. Two separate convoys of 10 to 12 coaches were each led by a police car and, at all the major intersections, officers held back the traffic. A section of expressway was even closed so the convoy could travel against the flow to enable the buses to make a left turn more easily. It was amazing to see the gridlock in all directions on the highways.
