ITS Standards Committee Meeting – September 13, 2001 / Toronto

A meeting of the Standards Committee was convened in Toronto at the MacDonald Block, Ontario Government Centre on Thursday, September 13, 2001. The final agenda can be obtained by downloading Agenda 13 Sept 2001.

The main agenda item was a status report to the committee by co-chair William Johnson on the ITS standards development framework for Canada and recently approved action plans. His presentation can be obtained by downloading from Standards Committee Presentation 13 Sept 2001. The co-chairs, Dr. Johnson and Colin Rayman, responded to questions from members present and invited all members to participate in the implementation of the ITS standards development framework for Canada. The second item on the agenda was a briefing by co-chair Colin Rayman highlighting recent Canadian involvement in the U.S. NTCIP standards development activities.

The second part of the meeting was a session organized by the Mobile Communications Technology (DSRC) Working Group. The main agenda item was a presentation by the Working Group chair, Dr. Lewis Sabounghi, to update members on the status of dedicated short range communications (DSRC 5.9 Ghz band), new initiatives by the ISO Technical Committee 204 related to cell phone, infrared, radar wave length and 5.9 Ghz band communication technologies, and discussions with Industry Canada, Spectrum Management Directorate. The third part of the meeting was a session dedicated to the Canadian Advisory Committee for ISO Technical Committee 204 at which issues and Canadian positions were reviewed in preparation for the upcoming plenary meeting in Australia on October 12, 2001.
