About The Workshop

ITS Canada and the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) present this one-day workshop that will cover the application of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in transit operations. Within the context of the ITS Architecture for Canada, the various application areas in Public Transport Services (APTS) will be described, including references to recent projects and emerging technologies. Specific topics will include Fleet Management, CAD/AVL Systems, Electronic Payment Systems, Passenger Information Systems, Transit Priority Systems, and Smart Bus Technologies. These topics will be presented in the context of current initiatives and lessons learned from real-life applications. The workshop presentations will be wrapped up with a round table discussion on current needs and application opportunities.

ITS Canada is a recognized facilitator and source of expertise for many agencies and stakeholders in Canada and the United States. This forum is one in a series being conducted by ITS Canada to improve the development and application of ITS for the benefit of industry users.

The goal of the forum is to provide the following benefits:

Up-to-date information: an information exchange on current and planned technology, systems, projects, and products that involve transit.

New ideas for practical applications: a discussion forum for additional technological applications or projects that may assist transit agencies to improve efficiency, safety, and security of operations.

A networking and learning opportunity: that will enable stakeholders to identify and contact others with similar interests, locations, projects, or problems.

Access to resources: ITS Canada is a recognized source for advice and information on intelligent transportation systems.

Simulaneous interpretation will be available for all workshop sessions.

The forum was one day in duration, with a program designed to inform and engage participants from the transit industry in the region:
