As
part of ITS Canada’s Annual Conference in Whistler,
a golf tournament is being organized at the Fairmont
Chateau Whistler Golf Club on June 4, 2006.
About the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Course
The
mountain vistas that surround this course provide
a truly astounding backdrop to any player's game.
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course offers
golfers 18 challenging holes. Opened in 1993, it plays
a maximum of 6,635 yards and has elevation challenges
of up to 300 feet.. The Fairmont Chateau Whistler
Golf Club is one of the few courses in North America
to offer the colour ProShot GPS satellite yardage
system (installed on every power cart).
By
allowing nature to dictate the path of the course
(without constraints of commercial influence), it
traverses creeks, ponds, stands of ancient Douglas
Firs and granite rock faces, which testify to the
fact that this magnificent course follows closely
the natural state of the rugged terrain. Carved out
of the slopes of the Coast Mountain range, with elevation
changes of more than 400 feet overall, this magnificent
golf course is generous to the eye and provides enough
fun and challenge for everyone.
Whistler
has become one of the premier golf destinations in
Canada and the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club
is most certainly one of the reasons why. Awards received
include:
“Canada's
#1 Golf Resort” ~ Condé Nast Traveler
Magazine
“4 1/2 Stars” by Golf Digest ~ “A
Must Play” rating
“Top 15 Golf Resorts in North America”
~ Condé Nast Traveler Magazine

About ITS Canada’s
Tournament
The
tournament will be run in a “Reverse Shotgun”
format, meaning all groups begin teeing off at the
same time. Each foursome will have a specific hole
assignment to start from. Golf carts are included
for all players.
The
format of the tournament will be a Scramble: only
the best shots are played and, therefore, the pace
of play can be very quick. Here’s how it will
work:
The
organizing committee is working on perks for golfers
as well as hole and skill prizes. Near holes 5 and
14 is the Fairmont’s Bearhouse (half-way house)
where golfers can enjoy food and drink, including
alcoholic beverages. Note that participants are not
allowed to bring their own food or drink onto the
course or premises.
The
fun starts at 8:00 a.m. at your foursome’s designated
tee; therefore, participants need to be at the course
by 7:15 a.m. (earlier if you’d like to warm
up beforehand). A shuttle will be on a continual rotation
between the golf course and the hotel so groups can
arrive at their leisure. The course dress code indicates
no jeans or cut-offs and no metal spikes; collared
shirts are required. Frost delays may occur, a reality
of golfing in the mountains. The event will proceed
rain or shine but, even in the rain, the views are
spectacular.
